AIRBANK PUFFER Pro Review: Best Rechargeable SUP Pump for Coaches & Paddle Boarders?
If you’ve ever found yourself in a breezy car park or lakeside setup spot, already short on time and still wrestling with a manual SUP pump… you’ll understand why this caught my attention.
For me, that might be a sunny morning in Nerja, coaching off the beaches in the shallow waters in Torrox, or setting up at the stunning embalse de Bermejales.
For you, it might be your local coastline, lake, or open water coaching venue. Either way, the scenario’s the same — you’ve got an open water swimming session to run (or a paddle to enjoy), and inflating your stand-up paddle board (SUP) is the last thing you want to be burning time and energy on.
I spend a lot of time coaching from a SUP — supporting open water swimmers, feeding back on their stroke and keeping sessions safe. The board is essential to how I coach. Inflating it, however, has always been the least enjoyable part of the job.
So, when I got the chance to try the AIRBANK PUFFER Pro Rechargeable Pump, I was curious — but also hoping it might solve a problem I deal with regularly.

First impressions of the Airbank Puffer Pro
As you can see from the unboxing video below the Puffer Pro straight away didn’t feel like a cheap add-on gadget.
It’s compact, properly built, and light enough that you can just throw it in your dry bag without thinking about it. In a van already full of wetsuits, tow floats, swim hats, spare goggles and all the usual coaching gear, that matters more than you’d think.
Everything comes neatly packed with a robust carry case which has the main compartment for the pump and a separate zip compartment for the hose, nozzles, charge cable, instruction manual and spare O-rings. The pump unit itself feels solid — something that can handle sand, heat, the odd drop and regular use rather than just the occasional weekend outing. They say it has been free fall tested but I did not text this myself!
It has a webbing strap handle and digital display with a backlight so you can still read it on those dingy early mornings.

What Airbank Puffer Pro is like to use
The real test, for me, is always simple: does this make my life easier on a busy coaching day?
In short — yes, it does.
You connect it, set your target pressure, press start… and then just get on with something else. That might be setting up buoys, briefing swimmers, or organising the session. It took me just over 4 minutes to fully inflate my SUP.
The unit is set to 12 PSI as standard which was perfect for my board but if you need to adjust this then just use the plus and minus buttons.
The pump starts fast, inflating the board quickly (400L/min), and then automatically shifts into a slower, high-pressure mode (75L/min) to finish the job properly. So don’t be shocked by a change in tone! You don’t need to stand over it or second-guess anything. It switches itself off exactly where you want it.
That’s a bigger deal than it sounds. No overinflating, no checking and rechecking — just consistent, reliable results every time.
And importantly, you’re not wasting energy before you even get on the water. Whether you’re coaching or heading out for your own paddle, that’s a win.

Airbank Puffer Pro Speed and Battery in real life
On paper, the specs are impressive, but what matters is how it performs when you’re using it day to day.
Inflating a standard board to 12 to 15 PSI takes just 4 to 8 minutes, and it does it without any effort from you beyond pressing a button. The dual-stage system works seamlessly in the background — quick at the start, precise at the end.
Battery life has been solid. It’s designed to handle multiple boards on a single charge, and in real use that holds up. For a typical coaching day, it’s one less thing to think about.
Another benefit is that it’s cordless so there’s no need to connect it to your car power to use it. You can use it by the waters edge rather than in the car park.
The unit is not waterproof so if you do take it to the waters edge don’t get it wet. If it does get the odd splash of water, then wipe it off as soon as you can.

The small details that make a difference
What really stands out isn’t just the inflation — it’s everything around it.
The pressure accuracy is noticeably better than most pumps, and the display is clear and easy to read even in bright conditions. You feel confident that what you set is what you’re getting.
Then there’s deflation. At the end of a session — especially if the wind has picked up or you’re ready to get moving due to reduced light — being able to switch modes and quickly pull the air out of the board is a genuinely useful feature. It packs down tighter and saves time and effort. I was able to pack my SUP into it's bag in alot less time than normal so was a real bonus. Unlike the unflation you will have to turn the power off to stop inflation - this is not automatic - so keep an eye on it as it deos not take long to deflate fully (less than a minute for my SUP).
It has an LED torch built into the top of the unit so if it does get late and starts to get dark, you can push the button and get extra light to help you pack away.
It also comes with a range of nozzles, which means it’s not limited to your SUP. If you coach or spend a lot of time around the water, you’ll likely find yourself using it for other bits of kit too like your kayak, inflatable tent, dinghy and more. You could use it to inflate swimming tow floats, but this may be overkill?

What’s great — and what isn’t on the Airbank Puffer SUP Pump
This is a solid bit of kit, but like anything, it’s worth knowing both sides.
What it does well:
- It saves time and effort every session
- It’s compact and easy to carry and being cordless means you can take it to the water’s edge if needed
- The auto shut off removes guesswork
- Deflation mode cuts down on pack-down time
- It can inflate up to six 10.6 ft SUPs on a single charge
- You can use it for more than just SUPs
On the flip side:
- It’s not silent — you’ll hear it, particularly in the final stage
- You do need to keep it charged via the USB cable (note that there is no specific car charger included)
- It’s more of an investment than a basic pump, though that’s reflected in how it performs (£125 for the Puffer versus £25 for a hand SUP pump).

Who this is the Airbank Puffer Pro for?
If you’re coaching from a SUP, this feels like one of those upgrades that quickly becomes essential. It takes away a repetitive task and lets you focus on your athletes and your session.
For athletes, it makes getting on the water easier and more appealing. When setup is quick and effortless, you’re far more likely to use your board regularly — whether that’s for recovery paddles, cross-training, or just switching off.
I travel to events and races in my van with an inflatable awning tent, so I fully intend to use it next time we go camping.
Final thoughts and Conclusion
After using it under coaching conditions, the biggest thing I noticed is how quickly it becomes part of your routine.
You stop thinking about inflating your board altogether. It just happens while you get on with everything else.
And that’s really the point. Less time and effort on setup means more time doing what you enjoy — coaching, training, or just being out on the water.
If your SUP is a regular part of your week, this is one of those upgrades that genuinely makes a difference.

FAQ: AIRBANK PUFFER Pro Rechargeable SUP Pump
How long does it take to inflate a paddle board?
In real use, you’re looking at around 5–8 minutes to reach 12–15 PSI on a standard all-round SUP. The pump uses a dual-stage system — fast airflow at the start, then a slower high-pressure finish — so you get both speed and accuracy without doing any work yourself.
How many boards can it inflate on one charge?
AIRBANK claims up to 6 boards at 12 PSI, and in practice it comfortably handles multiple inflations in a single session.
For most coaches or paddlers:
- 1–2 boards per session → no problem at all
- Multiple sessions → still unlikely to run out
Battery capacity is around 5200mAh, which is why it holds up well across repeated use.
What is the maximum pressure?
The PUFFER Pro goes up to 20 PSI, which is more than enough for:
- Inflatable paddle boards
- Wing foils
- Kayaks and other inflatables
It also automatically stops when it reaches your target pressure, so you don’t risk overinflating.
Can you use it for deflation as well?
Yes — and this is one of those features you’ll appreciate more than you expect.
There’s a dedicated deflation mode, which quickly removes air from your board, so it packs down smaller and faster.
After a long session, that’s a big win.
Is it portable enough for travel?
Very much so.
It weighs around 1.26 kg and is compact enough to fit in your SUP bag or van setup easily.
Because it’s rechargeable, you don’t need:
- A car connection
- A power outlet
- Or any cables once charged
That makes it ideal for beaches, lakes, and remote swim spots.
How accurate is the pressure reading?
The pump uses a digital pressure system and automatically shuts off at your set PSI.
That means:
- No guesswork
- No checking with a separate gauge
- Consistent board feel every time
It’s noticeably more reliable than most basic pumps, which can be off by a fair margin.
What can you inflate with it?
It’s not just for SUPs.
With multiple nozzles included, you can use it for:
- Paddle boards
- Kayaks
- Wing foils and kites
- Tow floats and inflatables
Basically, if it uses an inflatable valve, there’s a good chance this will handle it.
How long does it take to charge?
Charging typically takes around 2–3 hours depending on the power source.
It can also be powered via a 12V car connection (handy backup if you forget to charge) but it’s worth noting the unit does not come with this cable.
Is it noisy?
Like most electric SUP pumps, it’s not silent.
You’ll hear it:
- More during the high-pressure phase
- Similar to a small compressor or hairdryer
It’s not excessive, but it’s noticeable — especially in quiet early morning conditions.
Can you pump up other items other than a SUP?
Yes, you can pump up inflatable kayaks, tents, kites, wing foils, floaties, dinghy’s and more.
Is it worth it compared to a manual pump?
If you only inflate occasionally, maybe not.
But if you:
- Use your SUP regularly
- Coach from a board
- Or just value your time and energy
Then yes — it’s a significant upgrade.
You save effort, time, and start every session fresher.
