1. Zoggs Predator Flex Goggles with Reactor Lenses
I’ve had my current pair of Zoggs Predator flex for over 9 years! I use them in the in pool and in the sea and they are still going strong and fog free.
I put this done to great design but also cleaning then in fresh water after every swim, keeping them in a Zoggs case and also using Cressi anti-fog spray that not only keeps them fog free but seems to keep the rubber in tip top shape.
Zoggs Predator Flex
Features
- Reactor Lens Technology: These lenses adapt to changing light conditions, which is perfect for open water swimming. They darken in bright sunlight and lighten in low light, offering clear vision no matter the weather. This is great when travelling to races as you only need to pack one pair and know they will be great for any conditions.
- Flexpoint Technology: Provides a comfortable fit and a wide field of vision.
- Anti-Fog Coating: Ensures clear sight throughout your swim. This does tend to wear out after a few months, so this is where the Cressi anti-fog comes in.
Benefits
The Zoggs Predator Flex goggles are a staple in my gear bag because of their versatility and comfort. The Reactor lenses are particularly advantageous for open water swims where light conditions can vary.
To protect them, I use a Zoggs case, which not only prevents scratches but also helps keep my swim cap and Cressi anti-fog solution handy.
How I Use Them
I primarily use these goggles for open water swims and triathlon races. Their adaptability to different light conditions makes them ideal for variable weather and time of day.

Cressi Anti-Fog Solution
Over the years I had heard many triathletes and swimmers swear by all sorts of homemade concoctions but for me Cressi anti-fog is made for the job and is kind to the environment and cheap.
Features
- Reef Safe: Environmentally friendly, ensuring it doesn’t harm aquatic ecosystems.
- Effective Anti-Fog: Provides long-lasting clarity for your goggles.
- Cost Effective: Cressi anti-fog can be cheaper than some homemade concoctions so why not use a product made for the job?
Benefits
The Cressi anti-fog solution is a game-changer. Not only is it reef-safe, but it also works exceptionally well to prevent fogging. This means you spend more time focusing on your swim rather than constantly clearing your goggles. It’s a simple yet crucial part of my gear.
How I Use It
I apply the anti-fog solution to my goggles before each swim. Just a small drop and a quick rinse are enough to keep my vision crystal clear throughout my workout.

2. TheMagic5 Goggles
For me the Magic5 made to measure goggles are great for pool swimming. I loved the process of scanning my head using my iPad and sending it to the guys at Magic5 so they could create me a bespoke pair of goggles.
The Magic5 goggles have been a revelation for pool training. They’re custom-fit, which means no more annoying leaks or uncomfortable pressure points. I had a athlete who used to get water in their goggles during every set. After switching to Magic5, they noticed an immediate difference. The perfect fit means no interruptions and more focus on technique.
Features
- Custom Fit: The Magic5 goggles offer a custom-fit experience, using 3D scanning technology to create a perfect seal and optimal comfort.
- High-Quality Lenses: They come with excellent optical clarity and UV protection.

For pool swimming, the Magic5 goggles are fantastic. The custom fit eliminates leaks and pressure points, which can be a game-changer during intense training sessions. The clarity and UV protection of the lenses enhance both visibility and safety in the pool environment.
How I Use Them
I use Magic5 goggles for regular pool workouts and drills. Their perfect fit ensures that I stay focused on my technique without worrying about water seeping in or discomfort.

3. FORM Smart Swim 2 Goggles
I’m an engineer so love technology so when these goggles first came out I had to get my hand on them. They are pretty geeky, but the App and the goggle features are really good for helping with your swimming technique. The latest version now has Swim Straight and built in heart rate monitor so gives you even more useful feedback.
When I first tried the FORM 2 goggles, I was blown away by the real-time metrics display. Imagine being able to see your lap times, stroke count, heart rate and distance without having to stop or look at the clock. This feature has helped me fine-tune my training and track progress more effectively.
I can also write swimming sessions in the App and then share them with my athletes which is a great feature – not more soggy pieces of paper poolside!
Features
- Heads-Up Display: Integrated display provides real-time performance metrics, such as lap times, stroke count, and distance.
- Customizable Data: You can tailor the display to show the metrics most important to you.
Benefits
The FORM 2 goggles are excellent for serious training. The heads-up display allows me to monitor my performance metrics without breaking my stroke. This immediate feedback helps in making on-the-fly adjustments to technique and pacing.
How I Use Them
I use the FORM 2 goggles primarily during structured training sessions. The ability to view performance data and heart rate in real-time helps me and my athletes to optimize our workouts and track progress effectively.
You can use these during races as they are allowed and if you find it hard to sight and swim straight these could help you shave seconds or minutes off you swim depending on the distance of your swim.

Top Tips: Get to know the App as there are some great features and training sessions in there. If you have a coach, ask them to write sessions for you in the App so you can load them into your goggles and follow along with the sessions in the google display.

FAQ: Choosing the Right Swim Goggles
1. What makes Zoggs Predator Flex Goggles with Reactor Lenses a good choice for open water swimming?
Answer: The Zoggs Predator Flex goggles with Reactor lenses are ideal for open water due to their adaptability to changing light conditions. The Reactor lenses automatically adjust from light to dark based on the brightness, which is perfect for the varying light you encounter in open water swims. They also feature Flexpoint Technology for a comfortable fit and a wide field of vision, along with an anti-fog coating to ensure clear visibility throughout your swim.
2. Why should I use Cressi Anti-Fog Solution, and how does it work?
Answer: Cressi Anti-Fog Solution is highly effective at preventing fogging in your goggles. It’s reef-safe, meaning it doesn’t harm marine ecosystems, and it provides long-lasting clarity. Simply apply a small drop to each lens and rinse before your swim. This helps keep your goggles fog-free, so you can focus on your swim rather than on clearing your vision.
3. What are the benefits of Magic5 Goggles for pool swimming?
Answer: Magic5 Goggles are designed with a custom-fit approach using 3D scanning technology, which creates a personalized seal to prevent leaks and eliminate pressure points. This ensures a comfortable fit and effective performance. They also feature high-quality lenses with excellent optical clarity and UV protection, making them a great choice for pool workouts where comfort and clear vision are crucial.
4. How does the FORM 2 Goggles’ heads-up display enhance training sessions?
Answer: The FORM 2 Goggles feature a heads-up display that provides real-time performance metrics such as lap times, stroke count, and distance. This allows you to monitor your performance without interrupting your swim. By seeing this data instantly, you can make immediate adjustments to your technique and pacing, which helps optimize your training sessions and track your progress more effectively.
5. How do I maintain and store my goggles properly?
Answer: To keep your goggles in top condition:
- Rinse them with fresh water after each swim to remove chlorine or salt.
- Dry them thoroughly before storing to prevent mold and mildew.
- Store them in a protective case to avoid scratches and damage.
- Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
Using a Zoggs case, as I do, can help protect them and keep your swim hat and anti-fog solution organized.
6. What should I look for in goggles for open water versus pool swimming?
Answer: For open water swimming, prioritize goggles with adaptable lenses (like the Zoggs Predator Flex with Reactor lenses) to handle varying light conditions and a wide field of vision. For pool swimming, focus on a secure fit and comfort, which you’ll find in Magic5 Goggles. Consider goggles with anti-fog technology and clear, high-quality lenses to ensure good visibility in a controlled environment.
7. Can I use the same goggles for both training and races?
Answer: While it’s possible to use the same goggles for both, it’s often beneficial to have different pairs for training and races. For instance, FORM 2 Goggles with their real-time metrics are excellent for training, whereas Zoggs Predator Flex goggles with Reactor lenses are great for race day due to their adaptability to varying light conditions. Having specialized goggles for each scenario can help you maximize performance and comfort.
8. How do I apply Cressi Anti-Fog Solution correctly?
Answer: To use Cressi Anti-Fog Solution, apply a small drop to each lens of your goggles. Gently spread it across the lens with your fingers, then rinse thoroughly with water. This creates a protective layer that helps prevent fogging. Reapply before each swim session for best results.
